I watched the French Open men’s final today between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.. Five and a half hours. Five sets. Three saved match points. A fifth-set tiebreak.

It was thrilling, but not just because of the comeback. It was everything else around it that made it beautiful. Messy. Flawed. Tense. And totally “good enough”.

Alcaraz hit several double faults, and Sinner made many unforced errors. Neither player played perfect tennis. But they played fully. And that was good enough.

Sinner played world-class tennis. And he lost. In a world of headlines and trophies, that might seem like failure. But years from now, when he looks back on this match, just being in a Grand Slam final would seem “good enough”.

I could’ve done chores during that time. I could have cheered one player and felt the exhilaration or the disappointment of the outcome. But instead, I just watched a wonderful display of athleticism and finesse. And that was good enough.
